Term 3

The Adventures of Year 7 with Jurassic Ark

What a fantastic morning we had with Jurassic Ark. It was amazing to see some of the animals that live in the rainforest and we learned so much about the reptiles . Check out the photos below to see how brave our pupils were, holding the animals and observing them up close. Look out for the snapping turtle who snapped a carrot put near his mouth. The turtle lies in wait, camouflaged, on the forest floor with an open mouth, revealing a little worm like feature inside that lures the prey close. Then the turtle attacks.
Many of the animals were camouflaged and it was great to see the patterns and colours of their scales, that blend them into the foliage of the rainforest. The expert was the little chameleon who amazed pupils by changing colour according to his mood.

And finally, the python was amazing and was as heavy as some of our pupils- we were all mesmerised.

🛶Canoeing on the River Lagan!!!🛶

Sadly, today was our last session with Belfast Activity Centre, but what an amazing day it was. The sun shone as our intrepid detectives set off along the Lagan in canoes. They saw ducks, geese, coots and the odd bystander. This was a great lesson in working together to make the canoes go forwards, backwards and turn 360°. Thankfully, no one fell in but there was a slight incident with an unfortunate wellington boot! This was a fantastic day and we would like to thank Warren, Daniel and Declan, our instructors, for teaching us all new skills and for keeping us safe. In the term 2 section you can see the other amazing activities we have experienced with Belfast Activity Centre, with Nicola, Davy and Warren and we would all like to say a huge thank you for what has been a fantastic project over the last 3 months! 😎🛶
