Numeracy

Measuring

Year 2 have been busy measuring in non-standard units. They have enjoyed measuring with cubes, counters, pasta, lolly pop sticks, paper clips and sticks. Their favourite activities were listening to the story of Rapunzel and then ordering and measuring Rapunzel’s plaits. They also enjoyed being outside measuring playground objects using sticks.

We have also been working on estimating before we measure. To develop this skill we have an Estimating Box. Pupils are encouraged to estimate during the week and then on a Friday we count the items to see how accurately we estimated.

Problem Solving

Number Work

We have been working on number formation, recognition, ordering numbers, making sets and touch counting and recalling the number before and after.

Odd and Even Numbers

Year to have enjoyed exploring odd and even numbers. We watched a Number Crew programme, learnt an odd and even song and played Popcorn to help us remember that even numbers end in a 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 and odd numbers end in a 1,3,5, 7 and 9.
We enjoyed building constructions contains an even number, sorting sweets into an odd and even jar, identifying if the ladybirds had an odd or even number of spots and dividing pasta between two teddies to identify if we had an odd or even number of pasta.

During play we made houses to put up on our Odd and Even Street.
