Year 7 welcomed mums and dads to their lesson today. Everyone was learning how to code using Osmo, Lego Wedo and Dot and Dash.
Today was a beautiful day spent canoeing on Castlewellan Lake or exploring the mud on the Adventure Walk in Tollymore Forest Park. This afternoon pupils excelled themselves on the climbing wall and outdoor frame and it was a lesson in persistence and perseverance to get to the top. Many pupils pushed themselves to achieve their goal and made us all very proud of them. Have a look at our photos on this page and then go to the bottom of the page and click on Special Events to find many more. This was an excellent trip with pupils making new friends from St Macartan's Primary School in Loughinisland and learning new skills. Our thanks go to Mrs Fida, Mrs Bird, Mrs Clarke, Mrs Ferguson, Miss Fleck and Miss Fitzpatrick who made this all possible . We would also like to thank the staff at Ardnabannon who fed us well and who encouraged and praised our pupils as they developed their new skills.
Today was a brilliant day where we saw some amazing feats of bravery, where pupils went beyond their comfort zone. The children were climbing up Castlewellan quarry and abseiling down the other side. They also went bouldering in Newcastle and experienced the cold water of the plunge pool. Wow! It certainly took their breath away. This evening we went to Cocos for some playtime and have returned to a room inspection. For all Mums and Dads, you would have been very proud , their rooms were spotless!!!!!
We have had a great first day at Ardnabannon. We have been canoeing at Castlewellan Lake and the Adventure walk took place in Tollymore Forest Park. They were brilliant activities. Tonight we played games and spent some time designing a logo and motto for our joint adventure together.
Everyone is fast asleep. Tomorrow is another action packed day!
Year 7 pupils created Greek salad wraps for their healthy snack today.
The ingredients included
tortilla wrap
feta cheese
houmous
cucumber batons
tomato cut into cubes
slices of picked gherkin
They were delicious!
In preparation for World Book Day, the Newsdesk team at C2K asked us to recommend a book to others, using a short presentation. Year 7 were keen to recommend Revolting Rhymes by Roald Dahl. The Newsdesk team came into school to film the class and below are some of the photographs of the day. We thank them for this opportunity to share this hilarious book.
World Book Day Event
Everyone came to view the Newsdesk programme on World Book Day.
There are more brilliant events taking place next week. Keep reading.
Today pupils experienced a day in school as a Victorian child. Sitting in rows they were not permitted to blot their handwriting book when copying out Bible verses, 5 times. They also had a go at writing on slates with chalk, having to use their right hand and sitting on their left if they were left handed.Chanting the names of continents, oceans, capital cities and times tables was interesting. They played games with wooden hoops and the boys learned how to play Hopskotch. The pupils experienced a cookery lesson and watched how to make gruel, having a chance to taste it- with 12 out of 28 asking for more! Perhaps every day should be a Victorian Day.
Year 7 pupils attended a 'Taster' Day at Shimna and experienced a range of classes. Science and RE were particular favourites.
13th October, 2016
Today we were invited to the Odyssey Cinema in Belfast to see the film Swallows and Amazons. It was fantastic. Following the movie there was a question and answer session with Mr David Bowes, the artistic director on the film. He told us a few film secrets and showed us how he used story boards to plan the different scenes. Our class artist got to show Mr Bowes some of his artwork. Wow, what a great role model to aspire to.
