On Thursday 23rd June, Year 6 visited 'Silent Valley' park, outside Kilkeel. We have been learning about mountains in WAU and creating beautiful watercolour landscapes of the Mournes in art.
It was an absolutely beautiful day, the sun was shining and the 'Silent Valley' lived up to it's name 'silent', until Year 6 descended into the park!
We walked up along side the Silent Valley reservoir until we reached the Binnian Tunnel. Mrs Smyth told us about how the tunnel was constructed and how her dad's cousin once went through the tunnel in a canoe!
The highlight of the trip was rolling down the massive hill! We all had great fun, though Mrs Smyth and Ms Bird did not participate, we can't they why not!
We followed the meandering paths, which took us pass Sally Lough, then we eventually walked across a huge wooden bridge before returning to the car park.
After walking 5.5 miles, we had definitely worked up an appetite and really enjoy our lunch. We were able to squeeze in some minutes on the playpark, before returning to school.
Thank you to Mrs Smyth and Ms Bird, we had a great day out!
We have been learning about persuasive writing in literacy. We completed a shared brainstorming frame recording places which people can visit in the Mournes. We worked in groups of 3 and created a radio advert. We hope after you listen to the adverts that you will want to visit this ‘area of outstanding natural beauty!’
