In the area of the World Around Us (WAU) the pupils have opportunities to investigate the world in which they live through themes and topics which emphasise 'Connected learning'. The World Around Us incorporates the areas of History, Geography and Science and Technology. The pupils have opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge in these areas by focusing on a theme or topic each half term.
In Cumran the pupils have opportunities to enhance their learning in this area through educational visits and by having visitors to school to answers questions about the topic being studied. The pupils also gain a more in depth learning experience through 'bringing history to life days' and science days.
In Key Stage 2 the children are encouraged to take part in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) events. This is usually in the form of workshops or competitive challenges. These events very often involve unseen challenges and the pupils have to work together to solve challenges.
