Cumran Cubs

Week One

Week one of Cumran Cubs has been a delight. With lots of little Cubs running up to our door each afternoon, every day has been filled with lots of purposeful play, creative imagination and super smiles.

This week we have been focusing on our sense of self and sharing with others. From self-portraits to self-reflective stories and of course our wonderful All About Me booklets. In Cumran Cubs we focus on learning through play which comes in many forms and this week it has involved small world play with cars; cutting and sticking paper; pouring and catching water; painting big boxes; and even churning cream into butter; and much much more.

'A play-based approach to learning provides children with an abundance of learning opportunities to create, experiment, imagine and explore. At the same time, they develop negotiation skills, problem-solving skills, self-regulation strategies, social skills, and healthy relationships with their peers and adults.'

- CEA Learning Through Play

Thank you to all our supportive parents who have brought their little ones along to our wonderful school. Please remember that when our Cubs leave school smiling and covered in paint, it's more than just a messy shirt—it’s a vibrant sign of discovery, joy, and growth. Those paint-smears reflect little steps in learning: fine motor skills strengthening, hand-eye coordination sharpening, and creativeness growing. In those radiant, paint-speckled smiles, we see the heart of early education at its best.

Thank you to all our Cubs for a wonderful first week!

Week Two

Another fantastic week at Cumran Cubs!

This week, we continued to develop our skills in sharing, taking turns and communicating with one another. When sharing, we have been trying to turn our "No!" responses into "No, not yet." This simple little change has led to lovely moments of patience and understanding. We made some playdough together this week which presented another opportunity to practice taking turns and being patient. The end product was then rolled, squished and molded into lots of creative shapes and stories.

We also explored mark making using our toy cars which everyone enjoyed...especially washing the paint off our cars with the soapy water and turning it blue. There were lots of interested faces around the water tray as the water darkened and the items within it started to disappear. Little moments of wonder and joy.

On Friday, we enjoyed joining the whole school on the lawn for our V.E. Day celebration. This was a lovely opportunity for family and friends to join us too and a huge thank you to those who did come along.
