We are learning about tenths and hundreds. We can mentally add and subtract decimals, multiply decimals and complete written addition and subtraction calculations. We have learned the importance of ensuring the decimal point is always recorded and kept in the same place, between the units and tenths columns.
We have been learning about negative numbers in the context of temperature. To help us find the difference between numbers, find numbers less than and find cooler and warmer temperatures, we used a number line to help our learning. When finding the difference between a positive and negative number, we know that these two numbers can be added together to quickly find the answer. Mrs Smyth reminded the class, when working with negative numbers, we should draw a number line, as this visual tool will help us to find the answer.
We can convert g to kg and kg to g. We know how to find a fraction of a weight and we can order weights from lightest to heaviest and heaviest to lightest.
Year 6 have been learning how to read, interpret and draw graphs. We can read and draw bar graphs, bar line graphs, line graphs and Carroll Diagram. We enjoyed using our outdoor space to explore Carroll Diagrams.
Year 6 are learning about ‘length’. We have had a great time estimating and measuring around the school. We can now decide on the best unit of measurement when estimating. The use of the connecting frames outside, really helped us to convert from m to km and cm to m. Our class would call themselves ‘Experts’.😉
