Measuring in Non-Standard Measures

Year 2 have been busy measuring in non-standard measures. They have enjoyed measuring with sticks, cubes, paperclips, pasta and lollipop sticks. Their favourite activities were measuring outside and measuring Rapunzel’s plaits. 

Problem Solving

Year 2 have been doing lots of Problem Solving this term using dominos. They have worked in pairs to find dominos that have a certain number of spots or show a double. They enjoyed finding all the dominos that had 1 spot and making a staircase showing a pattern. The created a giraffe picture with dominos with 2 spots and used dominos to help consolidate their understanding of odd and even numbers. 

2D Shapes

Year 2 have been learning the names and properties of 2D shapes. They have had fun finding 2D shapes in their environment, programming the beebot to move to a particular shape, making 2D shape pictures and making shapes with lollipops and counting the number of sides and corners. 

Maths Week

Year 2 worked together to identify the name of each face. They had to listen carefully and problem solve. 

Odd and Even Numbers

Year 2 have been working hard on identifying if a number is odd or even. We have learnt songs, played games and made a road with odd and even numbered houses. We sorted sweets into odd and even jars, sorted ladybirds with odd and even spots and divided pasta between two teddies to identify if the amount of pasta was an odd or even amount.
